1. Web Page Lay outing (Photoshop)

The first thing the web designer does when he designs a Web page is he starts with a blank page and places elements on that page. Placement of your elements can be critical to whether your web design works or is a failure. The layout of a web page is usually what people think of when they think of web design. If the layout is poor or doesn't work well, then customers won't like the site.

2. HTML

HTML, which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, is the predominant markup language for web designing. HTML is the basic building-blocks of WebPages. HTML is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags, enclosed in angle brackets (like ), within the web page content. A web designer use HTML tags to make a webpage. The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and compose them into visual or audible web pages. The browser does not display the HTML tags, but uses the tags to interpret the content of the page.

3. CSS

CSS is now a very important part of web designing. It is a very important skill when you are applying for job as a web designer in a web designing company. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used to describe the presentation semantics (that is, the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS, is the recommended way to control the presentation layer in a web document. The main advantage of CSS over plain HTML markup is that the styling can be kept entirely separate from the content. For example, it’s possible to store all the presentation styles for a 10,000-page web site in a single CSS file. CSS also provides far better control over presentation than a presentational element types in HTML.

4. SEO

In web designing SEO is an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. A web designer can promote a site to increase the number of back links, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic

5. Browser Compatibility

A web designer needs to see that his web site is read correctly by all major browsers. Browser compatibility is the ability of the Web browser to properly interpret the hypertext markup language (HTML) that renders Web pages. HTML is a coding language that is “understood” a little differently by each Web browser. Most sites are designed to look correct in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, because it is believed to be the most used browser. However, if you are a Web designer, your task is to code a site for maximum browser compatibility so that the pages look correct in other popular browsers as well, such as FireFox, Netscape, Opera and text-based browsers.
